Sunday Hebrew School

MBJC Hebrew School

MBJC Hebrew School was established thanks to the generous support of the Manhattan Beach Jewish Center, under the leadership of Rabbi Yehuda Wechsler and Rabbi Akiva Eisenstadt whose vision inspired our growth in the wake of the events of October 7th.

Our mission is to nurture a strong Jewish identity and a deep sense of pride in children who attend public schools.

We are proud to welcome an average of 30 students each week, and our community continues to grow with the launch of our new Shaping Lives Junior track.

Our students learn Hebrew, Jewish history, and cherished traditions, gaining a vibrant and meaningful connection to their heritage. Participation is never about pushing anyone toward greater religious observance. Instead, our goal is to empower children with knowledge, confidence, and belonging β€” so they carry their Jewish identity with strength and joy into the future.

We are proud to partner with Chazaq, a leader in Jewish Sunday education for over 15 years, serving more than 25 locations across America. Their success and experience give our program the strong foundation it needs to thrive and grow.

Our programs fully sponsored (FREE) for all families!

Our Programs

We offer three age-appropriate tracks to support every stage of Jewish growth:

β€’ NEW – Shaping Lives Junior (Ages 3.5–5)

The curriculum introduces the Hebrew alphabet, holidays, and traditions, helping children build a strong foundation in Jewish learning and identity. Each session ends with playtime and pizza.

β€’ Shaping Lives (Ages 5–10)

The curriculum continues to build on Hebrew reading, Jewish values, and traditions, helping children deepen their connection to Jewish learning and identity. Each session ends with a raffle for fun prizes, foosball, and pizza β€” a joyful way to wrap up the morning!

β€’ Young Jewish Scholars Club / Bar & Bat Mitzvah Club (Ages 11–14)

The curriculum fosters a deeper understanding of Jewish values, holidays and traditions, and Jewish history. Students engage in meaningful discussions about Israel and Jewish philosophy and hear from inspiring speakers who share insights on leadership and community.

Each session concludes with a fun raffle for Amazon and Starbucks gift cards β€” plus pool, foosball, board games, and pizza time! The young scholars also enjoy exciting trips throughout the year that bring learning to life beyond the classroom.

We also plan to launch Shaping Lives Senior for teens ages 14–16. If you’re interested in a program for your older teen, we’d love to hear from you!
